Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
Nisivos ("we," "our," or "us") is a private community platform built for bochurim and their classmates to share photos, conversations, and moments with one another. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use Nisivos. By using the platform, you agree to the practices described below.
2. Information You Provide
When you sign in and use Nisivos, the following is stored:
- Your name (chosen by you or assigned by an admin)
- A password — stored only as a one-way SHA-256 hash. We never see or store your password in plain text.
- Optional profile details you choose to add: profile photo, bio, year/grade, location, hometown, birthday, favorite quote
- Photos and captions you upload
- Comments, likes, and reactions you leave on others' content
- Chat messages you send (group chat and direct messages)
- Voice notes and video calls you initiate within the app
3. Information Collected Automatically
- The time you were last online (a heartbeat every ~90 seconds), so others can see whether you're active
- Photo view counts — which photos you viewed, used to power your personal dashboard. You can disable this in Privacy settings.
- The current device's session token, so you can be signed out of other devices if you choose.
- Read-receipt timestamps for direct messages (only if you have read receipts enabled).
We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. We do not have a Facebook pixel, Google Analytics, or similar.
4. How Your Information Is Used
- To operate the platform — show your photos to your classmates, deliver your messages, count likes, etc.
- To build your personal dashboard with your activity stats.
- To enforce community standards (an admin and moderators may review reported content).
- To recover content you accidentally delete (soft-deleted items sit in an admin-only Trash for up to 30 days).
5. Who Can See What
- Every signed-in user can see other users' names, profile pictures, public photos, and the group chat.
- Direct messages are visible only to the two participants.
- Saved photos (bookmarks) are visible only to you.
- Admins can access all content in the platform for moderation purposes — including the Trash and the audit log. Every admin action is logged.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your information with anyone outside Nisivos. There are no third-party advertisers, no email-list brokers, no analytics vendors.
6. Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Google Firebase Firestore (database) and Firebase Storage (videos and large media). All data is encrypted in transit using TLS. Passwords are stored as SHA-256 hashes; we cannot recover them, only reset them. Avatars and photos are stored as compressed JPEGs.
7. Your Controls
- Hide my photos from the feed — your photos remain in albums but don't appear on the front page.
- Hide my likes / reactions — your name doesn't appear in likers lists.
- Show when I'm online / Show last seen — turn off the green dot and last-seen text.
- Read receipts / Typing indicator — turn off the signals you send to others.
- Activity analytics — turn off photo-view tracking entirely.
- Export my data — download every photo, comment, like, and message you've ever created as a JSON file.
- Delete all my photos — soft-deletes every photo you've uploaded.
All of these are in Settings → Privacy.
8. Data Retention
Soft-deleted content sits in the admin Trash for up to 30 days, then is permanently removed. Audit log entries are retained indefinitely for moderation accountability. If you fully delete your account (contact an admin), all of your content is removed within 30 days.
9. Notifications
Notifications are in-app only. We do not send marketing emails, push notifications, or SMS. You can disable individual notification categories, set quiet hours, and pause notifications during Shabbos & Yom Tov in Settings → Notifications.
10. Changes to This Policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be announced in the in-app announcements drawer.
11. Contact
For any privacy question, use the "Send feedback" button in Settings → Account, or reach the admin directly via DM.
